Anyone who has eaten at Rose's knows you may not get in quickly but it's worth it. Compare any other day to the night before Valentine's Day and it is NOT going to get quicker. OK, so it was slow to get in even with a reservation. Not great, but understandable for the time of the year.
Once we did get our table and order though, well, let's just say that Rose never disappoints. No appetizer this night since the kids (who were at the sitter) were going to be late for their bed time already so we skipped right to our main dishes of Rinder Rouladen and for my beautiful date, Wiener Schnitzel.
The Rouladen is a cut of beef cut thin and pummeled to increase tenderness. Wrapped around itself, with a sauce with just a bit of vinegar taste, it is tender with out losing the beef taste and not overpowered by the sauce. It is in a word, contentment. The spaetzle (egg noodles) are a delicious side to this dish, and almost synonymous with a German meal.
I am the beautiful date he mentioned above, and I would concur, that despite the wait, the food was worth it. Though I would also add, avoid wearing a dress if it is below 40 degrees, because waiting in the barn can get chilly. You read that right. The barn. This restaurant is a side-business. Rose's first job is training horses and teaching riding.
Wiener Schnitzel is what all pork chops aspire to be. Crispy. Flavorful. Melts in your mouth. Add a side of German potato salad, and your meal is complete. We finished off our night with an apple strudel we took to go. Our only regret was that we just ordered one. Because sure it was Valentine's Day and a shared dessert is romantic and all, but who want half of a dessert that good.
